Presenting Yourself
An example of the sort of thing I have been putting together for clients recently at Unique Solutions.
A team of eleven students on a work placement year are working in the Finance Department at a Strategic Health Authority. As part of the Health Authority's investment in the individuals, they asked Unique Solutions to put on a series of training workshops.
With little experience of interviews, giving presentation and networking we were asked to theme a day on "Presenting Yourself".
We decided to use interviewing skills as the main structure for the day allowing us to relate certain techniques to presenting and networking as well. From the outset there were no notes or handouts. The delegates were responsible for creating flip charts of any materials or notes they wished to takeaway from the day. The charts were then typed up the next day and circulated by email.
The day was delivered by Alun Barrett of Unique Solutions and Kate Byers, an associate and proffessional actor.
The content included:
* Preparing for an interview including research
* Coping with nerves
* Vocal preparation
* Body language
* Engaging an audience
* Involving an audience
* Emphasis and the "Rule of 3s"
* Interview questions and practice
* Entrances and exits
* Post interview checklist
* Killer networking techniques
The day was completely interactive and a resounding success with a universal "Excellent" on every feedback sheet. One comment was "the best training day ever!"
